Stranger Things: Synthesizer Soundtracks in Film and TV

Today, the sound of the synth is everywhere on our screens, from Stranger Things to Gone Girl, Blade Runner 2049, and Drive. Even when we think we’re listening to human performers, we might in fact be listening to today’s highly advanced computer-generated sounds. In this lecture, Dan Golding will explore how the synth became so important to contemporary film and television, and how it has reshaped the sound of our screens forever.

Dr. Dan Golding is a lecturer and researcher at Swinburne University, a host of the film music podcast Art of the Score, and the author of several video essays on film music.
