Music making memories at the Grainger Museum

In 2017, the Grainger Museum hosted the pilot program Music Making Memories, which focused on wellbeing for people with dementia, and their carers.

Led by Grainger Museum curator Dr. Heather Gaunt, the program consisted of multiple sessions of music making, reminiscence, and object handling in the Grainger Museum. Sessions were run by University of Melbourne by Music Therapy students, supported by Medical students.

Students, health professions, museum staff and participants alike all enjoyed the sessions, and each group gained insights into different modes of seeing and experiencing. While this was a pilot program, the Grainger Museum is hoping to run similar programs in the future.
